Welcome to Presbyterian Day School.

PDS is committed to being Hendersonville's most trusted and beloved preschool. A 40 year tradition of quality care guides us as we care for the children and families we are blessed to serve.

Our School Story

The Presbyterian Day School is a mission outreach program of the First Presbyterian Church which provides quality early childhood education in a Christian environment that is child-focused, growth oriented and individualized.

The Presbyterian Day School is an affiliate of the First Presbyterian Church of Hendersonville, Tennessee. A safe, positive, Christian environment is promoted within our state-licensed, three star rated facility (the highest possible rating). We offer quality and developmentally appropriate programs for your child.  Originally started as a kindergarten over 40 years ago, the Day School continues to offer quality early childhood education programs that focus on developing the whole child spiritually, emotionally, socially, creatively, physically and cognitively.  We provide hands-on opportunities along with a balance of structured and unstructured activities.

Presbyterian Day School is open to anyone in the community. There is no attempt to promote Presbyterian doctrine. However, the school is Christian in atmosphere and our 3’s 4’s and 5’s attend chapel with the church pastor once a month.

Our preschool programs include planned daily center activities and teacher-directed activities including art, story time, music and movement, and gross motor play.  Teachers also plan science experiments, cooking projects, and field trips to places such as the pumpkin patch, the grocery store, and the vet.  Police officers, fire fighters, a magician, and even a zookeeper and animals from the Nashville Zoo come to our school to teach and delight.

Classes and Days 2017-18

Our school hours are 9AM-3PM for all classes and ages. We follow the Sumner Country Schools calendar. We also follow Sumner County age requirements. August 15th is our cut-off for age requirements in each age group

Daily routines are followed with the toddlers. Activities will be provided for development of language, gross motor, fine motor, and social/personal and self-help skills. They learn to play and share with others and they experiment with toys chosen for their manipulative and creative value. Units are seasonal and a new color and shape are introduced each month.

1 or 2 days per week

Any combination of Mon/Tue/Wed/Thu/Fri

The Twos program is a semi-structured program that includes arts and crafts, outdoor play, music, sharing, and language. The children are encouraged to be themselves through these activities. Socialization skills will be refined to help them become more cooperative in groups. Center activities include math, science, music, dramatic play, reading, blocks, art and manipulatives. Units will be seasonal and a new color and shape are introduced each month.

Preschool for Threes, Fours, and Fives offers structured and unstructured activities to provide opportunities for children to make their own decisions about their day as well as participating in teacher directed activities. Center-based classrooms provide activities that include math, science, music, dramatic play, reading, blocks, art and manipulatives. Monthly subjects of study are seasonal and instructional. Developmentally appropriate practices are used to teach and instruct. Children learn the best through play and experimentation.

How does enrollment work?

We enroll in early March for the following school year. After our current families sign up, we have open enrollment at the school for new families. It is a first-come, first-served format, so we encourage parents to arrive early if they have specific scheduling needs. If you would like to schedule a tour, please call (615) 824-3004.

Are you licensed?

Yes, we are a state licensed three star facility. Three stars is the highest rating possible. Preschools and Parent's Day Out Programs DO NOT HAVE TO BE LICENSED in Tennessee. The yearly assessment from the state is a difficult and demanding process that requires visits from the Health Department, Fire Department, and DHS. We believe in taking these extra steps in order to provide the safest and most rigorous program for our families.

Being a licensed facility means that we have to meet safety, curriculum, and facility standards that we know are important to parents. No matter where you decide to send your children, take into account whether they are licensed or not.

How many kids are in a class?

Class size depends on the age of the children. Here is our class size breakdown:

One Year Olds: 4 per class with 1 teacher

Two Year Olds: 6 per class with 1 teacher

Three Year Olds: 9 per class with 1 teacher OR 13 per class with 1 teacher and 1 aide

Four-Five Year Olds (Pre-K): 13 per class with 1 teacher OR 16 per class with 1 teacher and 1 aide
