Preschool Program

Our state licensed, three star program for children that are 3 years old focuses on the whole child and provides opportunities for children to enhance their spiritual, emotional, social, creative, physical and cognitive growth.

Each classroom offers its own class schedule. Lessons follow a thematic curriculum, and correlate with the Tennessee Early Learning Developmental Standards (TN-ELDS). Themes with planned activities are incorporated to help accomplish these goals along with letters, colors, numbers and shapes. 


Gross Motor Skills:

  • peddling on trikes

  • learning to swing

  • catching and throwing balls

Fine Motor Skills:

  • painting with paintbrush

  • stringing beads, macaroni, etc.

  • crayon, marker, pencil manipulation (correct grip, etc.)

  • beginning scissor skills (cutting straight lines, correct handling of scissors)

Pre-writing Skills:

  • tracing simple lines

  • drawing simple shapes (circle, lines)

Cognitive Skills:

  • learning shapes

  • learning parts of the body

  • opposites – big and little, etc.

  • rote counting through 1-10

  • number recognition through 1-5

  • color recognition and discrimination

Language Skills:

  • listening skills

  • simple nursery rhymes

  • answering questions

  • following 2 to 3 step directions

  • introduction to upper case letters

  • speaking in simple, complete sentences

Personal, Social Skills:

  • putting away toys

  • taking turns, sharing

  • putting on jackets (zipping)

  • encouraging them to use the toilet independently

  • managing lunchboxes and drinks independently

  • following rules of centers, i.e. no throwing sand, treating toys properly

Creative Arts:

  • use a variety of art materials

  • participate in movement songs and dances

  • use scarves, rhythm sticks, etc. to practice rhythm

  • explore a variety of art processes: painting, drawing, etc.

  • sing traditional songs and songs that enhance the curriculum

Religion:

  • learn about God’s love

  • attend chapel with Pastor Michael Davis once a month

  • recognize that plants, animals, and human beings are God’s creations

  • recognize that God created families to love and take care of one another
